
Role Title: Senior Product Designer (Contract, Remote)
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: 10-40 hours/month
Compensation: $60-$110 CAD/hour
Role Summary
As a Senior Product Designer, you will lead the translation of client expectations and product requirements into validated, production-ready interface systems that reduce user friction and enable efficient, confident implementation by the design team for our clients. You’ll collaborate with Project Management and the Design team to translate strategy into impact. You’ll lead the end-to-end design process from discovery through to developer handoff, ensuring design direction is clearly defined and validated with stakeholders. Success in this role means the implementation of design systems by the team with minimal ambiguity or rework, resulting in measurable improvements in usability, feature clarity, or task efficiency within the client product. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ownership-driven roles and complex technical domains.

Role & Responsibilities
Strategy & Discovery
- Project Scoping: Assesses what needs to happen and defines the design engagement approach.
- Discovery Facilitation: Runs workshops to understand client needs, goals and existing product.
- User Research: Conducts interviews to gather stakeholder/user feedback on product.
- Competitive/Inspirational Analysis: Focuses on UX patterns, product design, and interaction trends.
- Reverse Brief: Synthesizes findings into a brief for client validation.
Analysis & Architecture
- Design Audit: Reviews existing style guides, components, and screens to plan next steps.
- Pain Point Analysis: Analyzes product pain points to prioritize design effort.
- User Flow Mapping: Maps user flows to understand behaviour and identify friction.
- Feature Recommendation: Pulls together feature/functionality recommendations from research.
- Prioritization/Sizing: Categorizes improvements by effort, impact, and cost.
Design Execution
- Design Direction: Makes major design decisions on style guide, key screens, and improvements.
- Wireframing: Creates wireframes to establish product structure and flows.
- UI Design: Designs high-fidelity screens with full visual system.
- Data Visualization/Information Design: Designs dashboards, telemetry views, and data-dense interfaces for technical users.
- Responsive Adaptation: Translates designs across breakpoints for all devices.
- Brand Compliance Checking: Ensures design deliverables adhere to brand and style guidelines.
Delivery & Governance
- Stakeholder Alignment: Creates buy-in and ensures stakeholders understand direction and their role.
- Component Delegation: Hands off secondary components and screens to broader design team.
- Client Presentation: Presents design rationale, ties decisions back to discovery findings.
- Feedback Interpretation: Interprets client feedback and amends design work accordingly.
- Developer Handoff: Prepares annotated files, assets and documentation for dev team.
- Design QA: Reviews dev build against design specs, logs visual discrepancies.
